| Mardi Gras Marathon | 02/24/2008 | New Orleans, LA | 26.2 Miles
42 K | N/A | Plantar Fasciaitis - I'll get a marathon in yet!
| Bethesda Turkey Chase | 11/22/2007 | Bethesda, MD | 10K | N/A | Visitors for Thanksgiving, so I passed. | |
| Marine Corps Marathon | 10/28/2007 | Washington, DC | 26.2 Miles | N/A | Due to work commitments, I was unable to keep up with my long runs in July and August. After that, it was just too much to catch up. Maybe next year. | |
| Army 10 Miler | 10/07/2007 | Washington, DC | 10 Miles | N/A | Unlike the Philly run, this is a check race. I'll start out at my target pace, but I really will be trying to run this as fast as I can.
Didn't run. I'm not doing Marine Corps due to lack of training and this is the day after the Red Dress run, so I skipped.
| Philadelphia Distance Run | 9/16/2007 | Philadelphia, PA | 13.1 Miles | 2:48:52 5K: 40:28 | 12:53 5K: 13:03 | This is a training run at marathon pace, so my goal is to run a consistent 11:00 mile, not to race as hard as I can.
OK, so I missed almost two months of my marathon training. I started this race expecting to have to walk the last 4 miles. Instead, I was actually able to pick up the pace at the 10 mile mark. So while the race is disappointing in the context of my training plan, I'm very happy with the results. In fact, this is a personal record for the half marathon! |
| Pikes Peek 10K | 04/29/2007 | Rockville, MD | 10K | 1:13:48 | 11:53 1M: 11:18 | About 70 degrees at the end of the run, but fairly nice throughout. I was actually maintaining a good pace up until 5 miles at which point I bonked. I took a couple of clif shots and was able to finish strong, but it could have been an 11:30 pace. I definitely ran near lactate threshold for this race and I'm very happy with the time! |
| Scope it out 5K | 03/24/2007 | Washington, DC | 5K | 36:49 | 11:51 | Similar to last year's run, I only had about a week of training due to some last minute travel. Unlike last year, I felt a lot better and stronger, and ran much faster!
This might be a good year for running. |
| Mardi Gras Marathon | 02/25/2007 | New Orleans, LA | 26.2 Miles
42 K | N/A | So after many missed training runs, as in almost all of them, I gave up on this run for this year and got real lazy.
Maybe next year. | |
| Kensington 8K | 09/16/2006 | Kensington, MD | 8K | N/A | Laziness prevails... | |
| Rock and Roll Half-Marathon | 09/03/2006 | Virginia Beach, VA | 13.1 Miles | 21K 3:27:55 5K: 40:36 | 15:53 5K: 13:00 | Worst Race Ever!
Weather: sunny and hot. It was 73 when we started at 7 am. I guess I paid for my lack of training. My pace started slow and just kept getting slower. Let's see if I can actually train for the Marathon. It was a great course though. There were 14 band stands, high school cheer leaders, local community cheering competitions, and a nice flat course. I highly recommend this course to people who actually train. |
| Pikes Peek 10K | 04/23/2006 | Rockville, MD | 10K | 1:17:00
1M: 11:15 | 12:24
1M: 11:15 | Wow, I actually got out of bed and ran it this year!
Weather: low 50s and cloudy This was more of a long run than a race, but I'm pretty happy with the results. I had to walk a bit between miles 3 and 4, but as is normal, this is where my body settles in and decides that running is good. |
| Scope it Out 5K | 03/25/2006 | Washington, DC | 5K | 38:27 | 12:23 | As predicted, not my fastest time, but given that I had a weeks training after breaking my foot, I'm very happy. My goal for the end of the summer is an 8:00 5K pace. Let's see what happens :-) |
| Mardi Gras Marathon | 02/05/2006 | New Orleans, LA | 26.2 Miles | ? | ? | Canceled due to my still broken foot.
This was to be a fund raiser as part of the AIDS Marathon program benefiting the Whitman Walker clinic in Washington, DC. They wound up moving to Miami for the marathon there. I still went to New Orleans and helped the Hashers there run the water stop. For those of you unaware, the Hashers in New Orleans not only supply water, but beer as well, and everyone at the water stop wears a red dress. I still have some interesting tan lines. |
| Marine Corps Marathon | 10/30/2005 | Washington, DC | 26.2 Miles | ? | ? | Canceled due to broken foot |
| ING Half Marathon | 5/29/2005 | Ottawa, ON | 13.1 Miles | 2:49:06.6 | 12:55 | Mid 70s, sunny, muggy. Seems to be a recurring theme.
Not up to the predictions, but not bad for not having trained and having injured my left calf two weeks before. |
| Scope it Out 5K | 3/19/2005 | Washington, DC | 5K | 30:10 | 9:43 | Low 40s start, sunny, calm.
Still recovering from the marathon, but a good 9:43 pace!

What is Chip Time?
In most races these days, runners have a small device attached to their shoes that trigger the timers when they actually cross the start line instead of when the starters gun goes off. This gives a better measure of individual performance, especially in races like the Marine Corps Marathon, where it was 20 minutes before I actually crossed the start line (that was in 2004 with 18,000 runners. It will be interesting to see how long it takes this year with 30,000 runners!)
For race purposes, the time is measured when the starters gun goes off (also known as 'Gun Time'), and this is the official time for the race. Don't expect me to be winning races anytime soon, so I'll stick with chip time.
